Banc du and Rhiwlas Energy Parks were originally proposed by Bute Energy in 2022.and because of their proximity to Llangurig (2km NW and 1 1/3 km SE respectively.) have effectively been treated as one project in the past.. Both comprise industrial scale turbines (6 and 12 respectively) with a tip height of up to 200 metres and together would dominate the town and surrounding countryside.
Following public statutory consultations in 2025 the formal planning application for Rhiwlas Energy park was published by PEDW together with over 1000 pages of supporting documents on the 17th August 2026.
Interested parties have 5 weeks until September 21st 2026 to make their representations. Representations may be made online on the PEDW application site (see resources opposite), by email to PEDW.infrastructure@gov.wales quoting the case number CAS-01928-W3M9S8 or if you prefer by post to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales, Crown Buildings, Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3NQ. How should I write my letter?
Ideally put together your own personalised email/letter using any of the headline points listed here or any other personal views that you want to express. However you decide to write some tips:
Don’t write a book but make sure you have said everything you want to say as succinctly as you can.
Don't feel you have to write about everything - pick up to 10 topics that you feel strongly about and find out as much about them as you can.
Make sure you are commenting on the application and basing your objection on facts and evidence - just saying that you don't like wind turbines, for example, won't have any effect.
Be aware of the sort of things that won't be counted - potential impact on property prices, for example, personal circumstances, or a spoiled view.
Be polite. A rant won't get you anywhere and will just irritate the inspectors.
Finally include your full name, address and email address and request acknowledgement of receipt. PEDW will protect your data.
