Villagers unanimous in their objections to Garreg Fawr proposals

27/09/2025

Yesterday evening around 70 residents from in and around Llanfihangel Nant Bran and Merthyr Cynog packed into the former's village hall to hear about Bute Energy's latest proposal for a massive windfarm in the area.   There was shock and anger in the room and those present voted unanimously to back a resolution condemning the plans.

The so-called "Garreg Fawr Energy Park, with up to 22 turbines, 220m tall would all but encircle Llanfihangel Nant Bran.  Speakers, including the local Powys County Councillor Iain McIntosh and Re-think’s Jenny Chryss, described the proposals and explained how a change in planning laws would mean they had to be ready with evidence to back up their objections at an earlier stage.

Garreg Fawr has to be one of Bute energy’s most bizarre proposals to date adjacent as it is to the Sennybridge MOD training area and surrounding the pretty village of Llanfihangel Nant Bran with giant turbines like a re-enactment of Rorkes Drift. Do the Copenhagen Infrastructure directors of Bute Energy, Nishal Agarwall, Rowan Parkhouse and Nico Schnackenberg, have any idea of the environmental and cultural damage that is being done in their name?
